In the village of Vernantes you will find all the basics, boulangerie, boucherie, pharmacie, post office, restaurant, bars and a supermarket between Vernantes and Vernoil. The Chateau town of Saumur is approximately 15 minutes drive and offers spectacular views of the Loire river.
A magnificent chateau overlooks the town which has many boutiques, restaurants, bars, theatres and historic buildings. Saumur is the home of the National Riding School and the French Cavalry (Cadre Noir) demonstrations are held regularly throughout the summer.
The Loire region is great for wine enthusiasts. You will find world renowned wines such as Vouvray, D’Anjou and some lesser known finds such as Bouvet which I think are understated. The choice of vineyards to visit is endless and many a happy hour can be spent sampling the wines. The region is steeped in history and provides many attractions with museums, medieval churches, cathedrals, troglodyte caves and abbeys all close by. The towns of Tours (45 minutes drive), Angers (30 minutes drive) and for those motor racing enthusiasts Le Mans is only 45 minutes to the north. Poitiers and Futuroscope are about 1 hours drive to the south. Nearest beach is La Baule which is 2 hours drive.
